The visit

The visit goes like this: you call, we come out, we find the fault, we tell you what it involves before we start, and we run the door with you before we leave.

Why is my door reversing? Four things we find

The safety sensors are a pair of small eyes near the floor, one on each side of the door. They send a beam across the opening. If the beam breaks, the door will not close. Almost every case comes down to one of four things.

  1. Misalignment. One sensor gets bumped by a bin, a bike or a bumper and no longer faces the other. The light on the sensor blinks or goes dark.
  2. A dirty lens. Dust, spider webs and Arizona grit sit on the lens and weaken the beam enough to stop the door.
  3. Wiring. The thin wire from each sensor runs to the opener. A staple, a pinch or a chewed section cuts the signal.
  4. The bracket. A loose or bent bracket lets the sensor drift out of line again and again, so a simple realignment never holds.

Match what you see to this list and you will have a good idea of what we will find. If you are not sure, tell us what the door does and we will take it from there.

WORK ORDER · SENSOR VISIT

  • Test. We watch what the door does and check the lights on both sensors.

  • Align. We bring the pair back into line so the beam locks steady.

  • Check the wiring. We follow the wire from each sensor to the opener, looking for pinches, breaks and loose connections.

  • Run a full cycle. We close and open the door with you standing there, and test that it reverses when the beam is blocked.

No surprise bill

What affects the price, explained before we start

We tell you the cost before any work begins. You should never be handed a surprise bill. A few things move the price on a sensor repair:

  • No. 01 What failed. Realigning or cleaning is a different job from replacing a sensor.
  • No. 02 The wiring. A repair to a damaged run takes more time than a connection that has come loose.
  • No. 03 The bracket. If it is bent or loose, it needs fixing or replacing for the repair to hold.
  • No. 04 The opener. Sometimes the sensors are fine and the fault sits in the opener itself. Then we look at opener repair with you.

We name the factors first and you decide. Our work comes with a satisfaction guarantee.

Sensor FAQ

Sensor questions, answered

01 Why does my garage door go down and then back up?

The door is reading a blocked beam. The usual causes are a sensor knocked out of line, a dirty lens, damaged wiring or a loose bracket. We check each one on the visit.

02 Can I clean the sensors myself?

Wiping the lenses with a soft cloth is fine. If the light still blinks, the fault is likely alignment, wiring or the bracket, and that is where we come in.

03 Do you come to me in Scottsdale?

Yes. We are a mobile service based in Scottsdale and we come to your garage. Call (602) 898-8558 or send a request.

04 Will you tell me the cost before you start?

Yes. We explain what is wrong and what affects the price before any work begins. Our work comes with a satisfaction guarantee.

05 What if the sensors are not the problem?

Then we tell you so and show you what we found. If it points to the opener, we explain the options for repair with you.
