The usual opener troubles

Humming, reversing, dead remote: sound familiar?

Most openers tell you what's wrong before anyone touches them. Here is what we usually find behind each one. If yours is none of these, describe it to us. Odd noises count.

It hums, door won't move

The motor is running, but something between it and the door isn't doing its part.

Closes, then reverses

The opener thinks something is in the way. That points to the safety sensors or the travel settings.

The remote is dead

It could be the remote itself, or the opener not hearing it. We check both.

Something else is off

If yours is none of these, describe it to us. Odd noises count.

Opener repair, step one

Often it's the safety sensors. We check them first.

Two small eyes sit near the floor on either side of the door. They send an invisible beam across the opening. If something knocks one out of line, or the beam is blocked, the opener refuses to close.

So we start there. It's quick, it's often the whole answer, and it means you aren't paying for a bigger repair than you need. If the sensors are fine, we move on to the opener itself.

  • Sensors checked first
  • Often the whole answer
  • Opener next, only if needed

If repair isn’t worth it, we’ll tell you straight

You shouldn’t have to wonder whether you’re being sold something. Here is how we think about it.

Repair it

  • We repair it when the fault is a sensor, a remote, a setting or a part that makes sense to fix.

Replace it

  • We suggest replacing it when fixing it won’t be worth your money. We’ll say so plainly and explain why.

It’s your call, and we’ll give you a straight answer either way. If a new opener is the better route, we also install openers .
